About us

It all began with the founder of Cherry River Tactical, Pat Whitney. Pat began his journey in 2004 when he joined the West Viginia National Guard. In 2007 at the ripe age of 19 he deployed to Baghdad Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2009, He was hired at the Richwood Police Department as a patrolman. While employed at Richwood he as able to complete Basic S.W.A.T. School in early 2011. immediately upon completion of S.W.A.T. school he was hired by Summersville Police Department where he served 4 years on the S.W.A.T. Team. After serving 7 1/2 years with the department, he would leave in 2018 for a position with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he currently works as a Sports Specialist and Firearms Instructor. In 2025 Pat complete the USCCA Firearms instructor course and is currently a Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals Instructor and Counter the Mass Shooter Threat Instructor. Not long after starting the business Pat asked his longtime friend and avid firearms enthusiast Michael Postalwait to come along for the ride. Michael, who is a successful business man in his own right, is currently a Range safety Officer and will soon be a USCCA Instructor as well.
